RAGGING IS DEFINED BY THE SUPREME COURT OF INDIA AS:

• 1) Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of testing, treating or handing with redness to any other student , indulging in rowdy undisciplined activates which cause or likely to causes a annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student.
• 2) Asking the students to do any act of perform something which such student will not do in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student.
  PGIMS committee is aware that ragging in institution of higher education is a matter of deep concern around India including to students families and law enforcement agencies. It is useful to be familiar with the recommendation of the Raghavan Committee constituted by the supreme court of India. The Supreme Court has made it mandatory for institutions to implement its recommendation on ragging. In accordance with those rules and its own ethos the institute will not tolerate ragging among its students in any form at any place. So we consider the following activities and/or action as forms of ragging:
  • A) Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  • B) Indulging in an activity which causes or is like to causes annoyance, hardship physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.
  • C) Asking any student to perform any act which such students will not consent to in ordinary, and which has the effect of causing or generation a sense of shame or treatment or embarrassment so as to adversely after the physique or psyche on a fresher or any other student.
  • D) Any act that prevents disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of a student.
  • E) Exploiting the services of a junior student for exploiting academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of senior.
  • F) Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure put on a junior student by senior students.
  • G) Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it, sexual abuse or assault of my kind, regardless of the victim or preparation gender, stripping, forced obscene and lewd acts, gestures or any action that cause bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
  • H) Any act or abuse by spoken words, E mail letters, blogs or public insults as methods to derives pleasure form actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to others.
  • I) Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of students.

We have an anti-ragging committee headed by honorable Chairman sir and other faculties. If the committee finds prime evidence of ragging based on any complaint it receives, the committee will take immediate action up to and including the filing of FIR wit5h local police if deemed necessary. Ragging within our Institution campus including its departments, offices, common areas, open spaces and hostels is strictly prohibited. Ragging in any form is prohibited inside or outside the campus. To root out ragging in all its forms from PGIMS we are providing few strict punishments to the persons violating the Anti-Ragging regulations of the institute.

GRIEVANCE CELL COMMITTEE :

Depending on the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti-Raging committee of the institute the possible punishment for those found guilty of ragging at the Institute level shall be any one or any combination of the following.

• a) Cancellation of admission.
• b) Suspension from attending classes.
• c) Withholding / withdrawing Scholarship / and other benefits.
• d) Debarring from appearing in any test/Examination or other evaluation process.
• e) Withholding results.
• f) Debarring from representing the institute in any regional, national or international meet, tournament etc.
• g) Suspension/ explosion from hostel.
• h) Explosion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution.
• i) Collective punishment.

As a preventive measure all existing students, fresher's and their parents shall submit an undertaking in the prescribed format in the beginning of the academic session itself, failing which the concerned student will not be allowed to attend classes until he/she and his /her parents/Guardian submit the said undertaking
